I figure if I’m going to give this blogging thing a try, I should introduce myself, so here it is. I’m a former military officer and I currently work as an engineer in Detroit. Through these writings I hope to share my own personal views on a variety of topics and provide perhaps a unique point of view.
I was raised in a military family, moving every few years, which somewhat lead me towards the military myself. Choosing the officer route, I attended West Point and entered the infantry. The Army brought me to Afghanistan for a year, patrolling the Maywand District of Kandahar Province just off of Ring Road South.
Following that deployment I sought greatness in the ranks of Army Special Forces, training for 2 years before joining 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). With a team of Green Berets, I ventured to Lebanon and again to Afghanistan. Once my fun as a team guy was up, I found myself in Leesville Louisiana training SF teams. Louisiana was the final stop on my Army journey, and after a year and a half there, I resigned my commission and started the next chapter in my life.
So today I find myself as an engineer working for General Motors. The Porsche 918 was probably the car that truly got me excited to get back into engineering, and GM was the company that I believe could bring those capabilities to the more common man (given a few extra years of course).
I imagine that my military experience will play heavily in my views, though many friends (especially those never in the military) are rather surprised that I don’t hold many conservative/Republican viewpoints, but everyone comes away from the military with their own particular experiences. What I mean to say here is on top of talking my military experiences/views, I also enjoy politics (for the most part) so I might share my views on those matters fairly regularly.
I’m also a car nut. I’ve been a Corvette fanboy since before I could walk, so an interest in performance cars drove me to getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering and influenced my desire to take a job at GM. My love of Corvettes is actually heavily to blame for why I have a 911SC in my garage (as well as a Corvette). So I’ll probably talk cars from time to time as well.
Beyond those topics,I’m currently pursuing my masters in Mechanical Engineering, so stuff we discuss in class might spring topics. I also enjoy talking stocks so that might make it into here as well. And of course it takes a lot of physical effort to make it into Special Forces, so fitness is still a pretty decent part of my life.
So I think that’s it in a nutshell. I suppose I can just update this page from time to time if I see fit, but here I am.
